Get To Know: Chelsea F.C.

It is well- known that Chelsea is a top club in the Premiership. It is part of the "Big Four" or "Top Four" league-dominating teams of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. What's the history of this great team? Chelsea's football club was founded in 1905 in a pub along Fulham Road. In their early years, Chelsea was not as skilled as the team they are today. The Blues made it to the FA Cup only once in 1915 before their luck, and talent, began to develop in the 1950s under manager Ted Drake. They won their first FA Cup in the 1954-1955 season. Under the legendary managers Tommy Docherty and Dave Sexton, Chelsea began to steamroll the competition during the 60s and 70s, winning the League Cup, the FA C up and the UEFA Winners' Cup between 1965 and 1971. Chelsea then entered its darkest days in the 80s when expansive renovations of Stamford Bridge ran the club into severe debt and star players were sold off to help cover costs. Chelsea was relegated to Second Division and came close to being relegated to Third. The club's hooligan firm became known as one of the most violent in the U.K. and further battered Chelsea's once glowing reputation. However, eventually finances were restored, star players were once again acquired and titles began pouring in again for the club. To date, Chelsea has won four League and FA Cups, two UEFA Winners' Cups and one European Super Cup. Chelsea holds two Full Members Cups, three Community Shields and dozens of l e ague records, including most goals scored in a season (95), the least amount of allowed goals for a season (15) and the most Premiership victories in a single season (29).
