Hooliganism is the bane of modern football

Hooligans are neither blessed with too much gray matter nor are they very brave. Most hooligans tend to gang up against a smaller group or will look for easy meat and then pick a fight over nothing in particular. In England, football hooliganism really came to the fore during the seventies and eighties.

Today there is football hooligans all around the world, and they all think that they are superior to others based on their football allegiance

There was a time when the terraces had an atmosphere that made football such a great game – but today you are taking your life in your hands when you attend a football match. Supporters’ emotions are in any case being taxed to the extreme with what is going on both on and off the football pitch.

Administrators of the game have their hands full making sure that things don’t get out of hand too often. The well behaved football fans get clubbed with the less savoury elements and have to pay a price such as being confined to special camps when they travel overseas to watch their team play foreign clubs. What will it take to drill sense into the mind of a hooligan? I fear the problem cannot be controlled – the only hope lies in containing it. The future is indeed bleak, given the way that money is also pervading the game, resulting in less sportsmanship and more unsavoury events taking place on the football pitch.
